MYO Sessions
A 3 step process that is individualized and based on your concerns
01 Assessment
Your myofunctional therapy initial assessment typically lasts about 1.5 hours and involves a thorough evaluation of oral and facial muscle function, tongue posture, breathing patterns, swallowing, and oral habits. I will take detailed records, including photos, videos, and measurements, to assess muscle coordination and identify dysfunctions.
02 MYO Progam
I will create a myofunctional therapy program based on the information and findings of your assessment. I will be customized based on your myofunctional disorders and para-functional habits. I may recommend referral to other health care providers as part of your therapy plan as we learn about the root causes of your symptoms.
03 MYO Health
The long-term goals of MYO therapy maintenance focus on sustaining proper orofunctional habits and preventing regression. By focusing on these goals, maintenance ensures that the benefits of treatment last a lifetime.

What your MYO program looks like
Your customized MYO program follows a carefully structured, progressive approach where each phase builds upon the previous one to ensure lasting results. Skipping or rushing through phases can lead to incomplete muscle adaptation and ineffective long-term outcomes.
Strengthening
Laying the groundwork
Neuromuscular Re-education
Long-term Stability

1. The jaw stabilization phase of myofunctional therapy focuses on strengthening to achieving proper jaw alignment and muscle balance to support optimal oral function. This phase helps reduce tension, improve chewing efficiency, and enhance stability and success of the subsequent phases.
2. This intensive phase focuses on laying the groundwork by activating and strengthening the tongue, lips, orofacial muscles and promoting nasal breathing while eliminating harmful oral habits (e.g., mouth breathing, tongue thrust). Establishing this solid base is crucial, as later phases rely on these foundational skills for long-term success.
3. Once muscle function improves, the generalization phase focuses on neurological re-education by creating new neural pathways and integrating new habits into daily life. Exercises become more refined, reinforcing proper swallowing, chewing, and breathing patterns while reducing compensation strategies.
4. The final habituation phase ensures long-term stability of correct orofunctional habits. Sessions become less frequent, but continued monitoring and occasional check-ins help sustain improvements and prevent relapse.

Throughout the program, therapy is tailored to your needs, addressing habits, muscle function, and overall oral health for lasting results. A collaborative approach with other health professionals may be indicated and appropriate referrals will be recommended and discussed if indicated.
